Keep the treated area completely dry for the first 7–10 days — this is the most important step for beautiful results. Avoid sweating, swimming, saunas, and steam rooms during the healing period as moisture affects pigment retention. Do not pick, scratch, or peel any flaking skin — let it shed naturally to avoid patchy or uneven results. Stay away from skincare actives such as retinol, AHAs, and exfoliants near the treated area until fully healed.
Some swelling, redness, and tenderness in the first 24–48 hours is completely normal and will settle quickly. The colour will appear very bold and intense immediately after — don't panic, it will soften and fade by up to 40% during healing. Light flaking and peeling between days 5–10 is part of the natural process — trust it and leave it alone. Full healing and true colour results are visible at around 4–6 weeks, which is when your touch-up is scheduled.
A perfecting touch-up at 6–8 weeks after your first appointment is essential and included in your treatment plan. Most PMU treatments last beautifully for 1–3 years depending on your skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare. Oily skin, sun exposure, and use of actives can cause faster fading — mineral SPF is your pigment's best friend.
